Spring Running Program
The Spring Runnung Program, led by Michelle Parks, Kristen Bendich, and Rhonda Dumas, will offer its inaugural program for the period January 18, 2021 to March 31, 2021. It will be a 10-week program during which boys and girls in 2nd grade through 8th grade will train twice a week, together, to achieve an end-of season, age-appropriate, distance goal. Training will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays.
We are grateful that Michelle, Kristen, and Rhonda will take the lead on this effort because (as their brief biographies below will show) they create a strong foundation upon which to build the program:
- Kristen Bendich—Kristen ran Cross Country and Track at LSU on a National Championship team. She is a mother of 3 who is a learning specialist at Sacred Heart where she also coaches Middle School Track.
- Rhonda Dumas—Rhonda is a Crossfit Level 1 trainer, Crossfit Kids trainer, and mother of 2 who teaches Third Grade at Trinity Episcopal School where she also coaches Cross Country and Track.
- Michelle Parks—Michelle ran Cross Country and Track at LSU. She has 3 kids and is a Registered Nurse but currently trains as a competitive runner for the New Orleans Power Mile Track club. Michelle was invited to participate in the 2020 Olympic Trial Qualifier for the marathon where she placed 93rd out of 300 women!
If your child is interested in participating in the Spring Running Program, registration is open and, given that it is the inaugural season, we would kindly ask that you consider volunteering to help be a “coach” with guidance from Kristen, Rhonda, and Michelle who will have a pre-prepared curriculum for each age group. Please contact Michelle Parks at [email protected] if any questions regarding the program.
